After retiring from the US Navy, Dr. Francis Giknis was recruited as Chief of Cardiology at Ellis Hospital in the mid 1960’s. He was joined by Dr. Miguel Cabral in 1967. Together, they developed the first CCU at Ellis Hospital.
Dr. Giknis and Dr. Cabral joined Dr. Morris Shapiro in practice in 1971. Dr. Giknis retired from practice in 1980 and became the medical director of the Knolls Atomic Power Plant.
Dr. Giknis passed away in 2000 at age 79.
