Dr. Nolan, a native of Mechanicville, graduated magna cum laude from Siena College. He attended Albany Medical College graduating cum laude and being elected to National Honor Medical Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He first came to Schenectady as a resident in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical College rotating through Ellis Hospital.  He also covered critical care patients at night in the St. Clare’s CCA during his residencey years.

  After completing his Cardiology Fellowship at Albany Medical College he joined Dr. Gerald Matura in the practice of Cardiology on Union Street in Schenectady in 1983. Having trained under Dr. Julio Sosa as a fellow, Dr. Nolan offered cardiac catheterizations in addition to his clinical practice.  He was the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Ellis Hospital from 1984 through 1993.   In 1985, he and Dr. Matura were joined by Dr. Robert Parkes in practice.  In 1987 they were joined by Dr. Douglas Long and by Dr. David Armenia in 1988.  In 1989 Dr. Nolan recruited Dr. Edward Wright to offer coronary intervention for Schenectady patients. 

Dr. Nolan was instrumental in planning and obtaining NY State Health Department approval for a Cardiac Surgical Program at Ellis Hospital

Dr. Nolan along with Drs Parkes, Long, Armenia and Wright joined Dr. Lindenberg, Vakiener, Manor and Dworkin in forming Cardiology Associates of Schenectady in 1990.  They all moved into what was then a  new building on Balltown Road

Dr. Nolan was chosen as the first President and CEO of Cardiology Associates, a position that he was re – elected to for the next 28 years. Under his leadership the group has expanded to care for patients in 5 counties and 6 offices.  The group has grown to offer every aspect of cardiac care.  Dr. Nolan’s commitment to excellence, honesty and compassion has been embedded in the DNA of the group.

In addition to running Cardiology Associates, Dr. Nolan created the department of Cardiac Services at Ellis Hospital.  He served as it’s chief through 2016.  He led the hospital to have some of the best outcomes in the state.  He additionally served and President of the Medical Dental Board at the hospital. Dr. Nolan and his wife Donna were honored at the Ellis Hospital Winter Gala in 2016.

Dr. Nolan’s administrative accomplishments are in addition to him being a gifted physician.  His diagnostic acumen and empathy has made him one of the most sought after Cardiologists in the region.
