Dr. Joy earned his bachelors degree from the Massachusetts Institue of Technology. He attended medical school at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He entered active military service in the United States Army upon graduation and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before resuming civilian life after twelve years of service. Dr. Joy completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, Washington. He served for three years as an internist at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC. He pursued his General Cardiology training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and completed a fourth year of training in Electrophysiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Joy joined Dr. Vassolas in the electrophysiology team in Cardiology Associates of Schenectady in 2003. He developed the atrial fibrillation ablation program at Ellis Hospital. Under his direction this evolved to include hybrid procedures done in conjunction with cardio thoracic surgery.
Dr. Joy worked closely with Dr. Steven Weitz and Dr. Robert Parkes to successfully reduce the “door to balloon” time for patients with heart attacks. This effort significantly improved outcomes for patients in the Capital Region.
Dr. Joy replaced Dr. Nolan as chief of the Cardiac Sciences department at Ellis Hospital in 2014. Under his direction, a new hybrid suite was developed
