Dr. Robert Parkes, a native of Clifton Park graduated Summa Cum Laude from Union College. He received his medical degree at State University Medical School in Buffalo where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical Center Hospital. During his cardiology fellowship at Albany Medical Center, he was identified to excel in cardiac catheterization under the direction of Dr. Julio Sosa. He joined Drs. Matura and Nolan in practice in the Union Street office in 1985. They were joined by Dr. Long in 1987, Dr. Armenia in 1988 and Dr. Wright in 1989.

In 1990 Dr. Parkes joined Drs. Nolan, Lindenberg, Vakiener, Long, Armenia, Manor, Wright and Dworkin to create Cardiology Associates of Schenectady.

Dr. Parkes was one of the first in the region to offer intra – coronary streptokinase to patients with acute myocardial infarction. He was the principal investigator for Ellis Hospital in the international GUSTO trial. He was chosen director of the Ellis Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in 1993. He along with Drs. Wright and Jordan developed the STEMI team at Ellis Hospital to treat patients with heart attacks and developed a world class interventional laboratory.

Under his leadership, the Ellis Hospital Catheterization laboratory has had some of the best statistic for safety and outcomes in New York State. In addition to his interventional skills, Dr. Parkes has a large clinical practice in Cardiology Associates’ Balltown Road and Clifton Park offices. His outstanding clinical judgement and empathy has made him highly sought after both in and out of the catherization laboratory. He has been an officer and board member of Cardiology Associates of Schenectady since its inception.
