Dr. Madiraju attended Medical School at the University of Mysore, India. He completed an Internship, Residency and Chief Residency at Saint Vincent Hospital, University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA. After serving as an Assistant Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency, he continued on to perform a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Brown Medical School in Providence, RI after which he stayed on to complete a dedicated Vascular & Endovascular Medicine Fellowship.
Dr. Madiraju worked with Michigan Heart & Vascular Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the Prairie Heart Institute in Springfield, IL. He completed a Structural Heart Disease Fellowship at the Prairie Heart Institute and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Vascular Medicine, Endovascular Medicine and Vascular Ultrasonography.
Drs. Madiraju joined Cardiology Associates of Schenectady in 2015. In 2016 he spearheaded the development of the PERT program at Ellis Hospital. They one of the 80 founding members of the PERT consortium in the US and the only one in the region. He introduced many new therapies for venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. These have included EKOS pharmaco-mechanical thrombolysis, ANGIOVAC clot extraction technology, PENUMBRA thrombectomy and continue to add new therapies such as the INARI CLOTRIEVER system for DVT and PE.
He along with Drs. Parkes, Cospito and Weitz expanded hemodynamic support program from IABP to IMPELLA Heart Pump, Tandem HEART LVAD, PROTEK DUO RVAD and developed an ECMO program. Under his direction, Ellis Hospital Cardiology became the only program in the region to have a dedicated program for high risk coronary intervention and intervention of coronary total occlusions.
Dr. Madiraju created the structural heart program at Ellis Hospital. Procedures that are now offered include Balloon Aortic valvuloplasty, INOUE PTMC for mitral stenosis, pulmonic valvuloplasty, PFO/ASD/VSD/PDA closures, Watchman Left atrial appendage closures, MITRACLIP, TAVR, paravalvular leak closure and percutaneous balloon pericardiotomy.
Dr. Madiraju’s expertise and reputation has allowed Cardiology Associates to be invited to participate in several research projects. One of these is the use of heart stich from Noblestich for closure of patent foramen ovale. The other is the treatment of refractory hypertension with the creation of an iliac arteriovenous fistula utilizing a device from Rox Medical.
He along with the Vascular Surgery team started an Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) and Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair TVAR program to Ellis Hospital.
Apart from clinical medicine, he is passionate about healthcare delivery, cost effectiveness and has been recognized by patients for his focus on empathy, communication and his thoughtful approach while recommending invasive treatments
